Shop for locally sourced crafts and souvenirs in the historic center of Agrigento. The modern city also has shopping complexes selling well-known fashion brands and souvenirs. Visit the Norman Cathedral of St. Gerland, a fantastic Roman Catholic church built in the 11th century. The church is known for its unique architecture, and has been modified and expanded several times since its construction.
Take a bus heading south to the Valley of the Temples, one of Sicily's most famous historical attractions. Before entering the archaeological site, make a stop at the Regional Archaeological Museum of Agrigento, located north of the temples. The museum is filled with objects that were unearthed in the area.
The archaeological park is located in a long gorge that stretches from the south of the city to the sea in the distance. Take a guided tour or explore the place on your own. These temples are considered some of the best examples of Greater Greek art and architecture throughout the world.
Stroll through the eastern part of the park and take a look at the 5th century BC Temple of Concordia, one of the best preserved buildings in the valley. In the eastern area you will also find the Temple of Hercules, which was built at the end of the 6th century BC and is considered the oldest in the park.
Back in the city, head to Via Atenea in the historic center of Agrigento, where you will find shops and small family restaurants serving traditional Italian food. Many of the city's luxury hotels have gourmet restaurants. Stay in exclusive hotels, or opt for a cheaper individual apartment.
