Sal8 (Via Cesare Batista, 8) is an excellent restaurant with friendly service and a small but varied menu. The Caprese salad is a must-try—simple preparation with the freshest tomatoes and burrata elevates this dish to another level. Since portions are generous, I paired the salad with a pasta dish.

On my first visit, I enjoyed a delightful pesto made with almonds, basil, and cheese, while my husband had steak with perfectly grilled vegetables. I returned the second night for their house-made ricotta ravioli in a buttery, whipped pistachio and almond Parmesan pesto.

What made this place special? The exceptional hospitality. After our first dinner, I mentioned to the maître d' that the neighborhood market had closed and I'd need to buy milk in the morning for my husband's oatmeal. He disappeared briefly and returned with a carton of milk from the kitchen in a takeout bag, saying I shouldn't have to get up early to cook while on vacation.

The second night, my husband was tired after our long day at the archaeological museum and Valley of the Temples and wanted to skip dinner. I kept our reservation and went alone. Instead of seating me at a less desirable table, they gave me the same lovely spot we'd requested the previous night and ensured I was well cared for.

Class act staff and great food—you can't beat that combination. Just be sure to make a reservation, as we watched them turn away at least a dozen walk-in parties both nights.
